Buried halfway in Italy’s heel, Puglia, Monopoli is a the second biggest region in the province of Bari, though infinitely preferable to that significantly more industrialized city. Like all Italian cities, there are a lot of cafes here. Unlike a lot of Italian cities, there aren’t many tourists. Why? Because Monopoli for non-Italians is a kinky misspelling of the title of the popular board game. But even if you didn’t enjoy that game, this is still a city to spend the afternoon in, catch the sunset over the port, and swing into a cafe near the old town. No get out of jail free card required.
